What happens if Nutella is refrigerated?

And as the Ferrero website states, Nutella should be stored at room temperature, a.k.a. 64 to 68 °F (18 to 20 °C).
But what is the reason for that? What will happen when Nutella is refrigerated? If Nutella is refrigerated, you can expect it to get hard and no longer be spreadable. Furthermore, it can also significantly decrease its lifespan, so to put it simply, don’t ever store Nutella in the fridge.

How long is Nutella good for once opened?
Believe it or not, Nutella can last for quite a while even after opening – once opened, Nutella is good for something about a year, provided you store it correctly. What does that mean? Nothing complicated, you just always have to make sure the Nutella’s completely closed and then put it into some quiet and chilly place like the pantry (but not the fridge).
Although it may seem that by putting it into the fridge, you can increase its lifespan, Nutella should actually never be stored in there. The main reason for that is the fact that when stored in the fridge, Nutella will get hard and become unspreadable.
